LANSING – Michigan AFL-CIO President Ron Bieber issued the following statement today on House Bill 4001, which was defeated on the floor of the Michigan House early this morning. The Republican tax proposal included a massive tax break for millionaires and billionaires, and would have forced drastic cuts to education, roads, and public safety.
“Defeating this bill is a big win for working people. This legislation was bad news for our families, students, and roads. Republicans need to get their priorities straight. Instead of rigging the rules to give even more tax breaks to their corporate campaign donors, they need to start working with Democrats to raise the incomes of working men and women, and build an economy that works for everyone.”
